"SIDAR-
An
Accessible Spain"
By
Emmanuelle Gutiérrez y Restrepo
he SIDAR www.sidar.org
has contributed since 1997 to accessibility to the Internet in
the Hispanic world. It has investigated and promoted the application
of the guidelines of accessibility and the development of utilities.
It has several groups of interest (Tools, Contents and Design),
and it has a list of general distribution, which those interested
in accessibility can subscribe to. Visit www.sidar.org/orga.htm
to find out how the information is organized and how you can participate.
The campaign called An Accessible Internet for
ALL launched by the SIDAR, obtained nearly 3000 signatures from
all over the world. The statistics of the campaign are in: http://www.sidar.org/firmas/estad.php3
In collaboration with several Spanish institutions, the SIDAR
has contributed to the creation of the first utility of evaluation
of the accessibility of web pages, in Spanish: the TAW. The TAW
(Test of Web Accessibility) has been developed by a team of the
Fondo Formación Asturias, and it is available so any person
or Webmaster may use it in: http://www.tawdis.net
The "V Jornadas" of the SIDAR took place
from October 25th through 27th, 2001 in Mar del Plata (Argentina),
facilitating this way a bigger integration in their activities
of people from the American continent. The topics tried in the
Congress were:
I. Internet in the administration of the entities for the disability
community
II. Promotion of the interaction among users
III. Accessible public services
IV. Advances in guidelines and languages for accessibility
V. Formation in accessibility for users and authors
VI. The chronicle of the congress, with connections to the presented
papers, is in: http://www.sidar.org/jornadas/vjorna/cronicavjorna.htm
In 2002, we will continue developing projects
in collaboration with diverse institutions and we will carry out
the tasks programmed by each one of the groups of interest. For
example, the translation of Amaya, an accessible editor and browser,
developed by the W3C.
The SIDAR is open to the participation of all
and all are welcome. To contact us just email sidar@sidar.org
or visit www.sidar.org for
