October 20th is Disability Mentoring Day
By AAPD

The American Association of People with Disabilities' (AAPD) Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) program connects nationally nearly 20,000 students and jobseekers with all types of disabilities to thousands of employers each year. It currently takes place in more than 300 locations in every U.S. state and territory and in 23 foreign countries.

DMD promotes career development for students and jobseekers with disabilities, through hands-on career exploration, on-site job shadowing, and ongoing mentoring, which lead to internship and job opportunities.

This year, the 2010 Disability Mentoring Day National Launch will be held in Washington , DC . It will be done to recognize the many public supporters and national employers who make Disability Mentoring possible across the country each October. This is done during National Disability Employment Awareness Month. On October 20, 2010, AAPD will host a DMD National Kick-Off Breakfast, which will feature leaders from the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Social Security Administration. They will speak about their commitment to hiring people with disabilities in Federal jobs.
